From McNulty & Associates’ Blog:
One question that often comes up when we speak with a sole owner of a business is: “why should I incorporate?”
Incorporation has a number of benefits. The main one is the corporate veil that is created. By creating an independent entity, your personal assets are separated and protected from those of the company. Another benefit is the public perception of your business. If you are an incorporated entity, it is seen as a legitimate business.
Once you decide to incorporate, you then need to decide on what type of business form you would like. The main two options for a sole owner of a company is a single member LLC or S-Corporation. Both types have pros and cons that depend on the type of business or services performed.
